Archaeology Tour · Historic Site
Experience American history along the Great Lakes by stepping into a recreation of the 18th-century French trading village at Colonial Michilimackinac. This Michigan state park is home to Fort Michilimackinac, a National Historic Landmark and open-air museum of the trading post that was built along the shore in 1715. Take a tour of this historical site, watch one of the reenactments that brings the old village to life--such as the 1770s' British occupation and the American Revolutionary War--and view collections of excavated objects from the region. You'll also find many hiking and biking trails nearby. To find out how to plan a trip to Mackinaw City, use our trip itinerary maker.

  • The fort was awesome! We have been to Fort Mackinac before but I think this fort is way better! The exhibits are great and so are the staff. We watched a cannon firing and that was cool also. The presentations are done on half hour increments and they announce them well. When we went there was almost no one there! Great place to go and see some history! Great bridge views too!
  • Living history actors bring the place to life. Great interpretive displays and my nephew thought one wax figure was real. Go at your own pace and dog friendly! So great to see people with their dogs and families getting along. For a place that is highly tourist driven, nice that the family dog doesnt have to be left in a hot car or to skip the location. Kudos!!
