Create an itinerary including Colonial Michilimackinac
Experience American history along the Great Lakes by stepping into a recreation of the 18th-century French trading village at Colonial Michilimackinac. This Michigan state park is home to Fort Michilimackinac, a National Historic Landmark and open-air museum of the trading post that was built along the shore in 1715. Take a tour of this historical site, watch one of the reenactments that brings the old village to life--such as the 1770s' British occupation and the American Revolutionary War--and view collections of excavated objects from the region. You'll also find many hiking and biking trails nearby. To find out how to plan a trip to Mackinaw City, use our trip itinerary maker.

  • We have visited many historical sites, including forts. This was excellent! We spent about 2 1/2 hours there. But, we could have spent all day there given the experiences/talks they have scheduled....  more

  • I lived in this little city for a year as a kid. We used to come down to what is now this park and sit in the lighthouse and under the bridge. The view of the Straits and the Bridge is amazing, peaceful and engaging. The park is clean, with tables, a gazebo, benches. People, please clean up after dogs! It's also a great place for rock hunting. But oh! The people watching is primo! I still love this location. Lots of winter memories. Sitting under the bridge-freezing. The park has two gift shops. Clean public restrooms and a nice walkway.
