Camp Randall is a historic U.S. Army site in Madison, Wisconsin, named after Wisconsin Governor Alexander Randall.HistoryIt was a training facility of the Union Army during the Civil War, with more than 70,000 recruits receiving training there. Later, a hospital and a stockade for Confederate prisoners of war were located at the camp. The site was purchased by the state of Wisconsin in 1893 and deeded to the University of Wisconsin. Of the original 53½ acres, a segment was set aside as a park, which now features a memorial arch, two Civil War cannons, and a stockade building.Camp Randall Park is also the location of Camp Randall Stadium, the outdoor football stadium of the University of Wisconsin, opened in 1917.Camp Randall was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.Further reading Cooke, Chauncey H. Camp Randall Stadium University of Wisconsin reviews
Lots of history here in this lovely stadium. There isn't a bad seat in the bowl but it does get VERY loud if you are near the student section. Be sure to be in your seat for the Jump Around. more »
So much fun and sportsmanship. I love going to see the Badgers. Great updates to the place are coming. more »
Nothing like Camp Randall on game day. September 7, Badgers vs. Central Michigan University, final score 61-0. Highlight was two nuns in red and white blessing the crowd.
Always a great experience. Good football, fans, food! Nothing beats Camp Randall on a sunny day with fans packed in cheering loudly for the Badgers! Go, Bucky!
