Mahnomen is a city in Mahnomen County, Minnesota, United States, along the Wild Rice River. The population was 1,214 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Mahnomen County.U.S. Highway 59 and Minnesota State Highway 200 are two of the main routes in Mahnomen.History"Mahnomen" comes from the Ojibwe name for wild rice.A post office called Mahnomen has been in operation since 1904. The racial makeup of the city was 59.3% White, 0.2% African American, 31.2% Native American, 0.1% Asian, and 9.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.8% of the population.
