  • This is the last beach on the north-east side of the island of Oahu. The highway ends shortly after and turns into a walking trail. The highway used to continue, making a loop around the island, but after a typhoon destroyed parts of the tip, it was closed down to car traffic. As a result, there is very little traffic here and you'll mostly see locals here and very few tourists. The waves can be a bit strong so if you want to do snorkeling, you'll need to be a strong swimmer. Head a ways out so you don't get smashed into the rocks by the waves or get rocks hurled at you underwater. You can see some fish, but like most beaches on this island, you won't see any corals. Being on the west side gives this beach an excellent view of the sunset. The mountains also block a lot of city light, so it's an ideal place for star gazing. If you swim, there is a life guard on-duty until about 5~6 PM. Restroom and outdoor showering facilities are available. Be aware that shower water is not potable, so avoid getting water in your mouth or eyes. Also keep in mind this is a high-theft area. Keep your valuable secured or leave them behind. Overall a great beach to get away from the tourists.
  • This is Hawaii's best kept secret! I just adore this beach, especially as you watch the sunset. It's a very long drive from the main city, but it's worth every single mile. Go here as soon as possible!
