Zimmerman House, Manchester

4.6
The Zimmerman House is a house located at 223 Heather Street, in a residential area of the north end of Manchester, New Hampshire. It is a usonian house designed in 1950 by Frank Lloyd Wright for Dr. Isadore and Lucille Zimmerman. It is a single-story structure, organized around a large L-shaped central chimney, and covered by a deeply overhanging roof. The rooms are arranged in a single line (except one). Wright redesigned the house around a rock just outside the front entrance. Most of its Wright-designed interior features are intact, including concrete floors, cypress woodwork finishes, and fabrics. Wright designed a special music stand for four musicians. Tours through the building are operated by the Currier Museum of Art.
The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
Zimmerman House is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Manchester Edition.

  • Had so much fun in my daughters field trip today with my husband. We really enjoyed coming there. If you can appreciate art and a little bit of history this is the place to go. I have never been to any other art museum so it was my first time but seeing it in person was so much nicer than what people claim online or in books or through TV or movies. I enjoyed the entertainment they provided for the kids and got the kids to make their own artwork. This place was really nice one day i will have to go and really look at everything myself
  • Tour of the Zimmerman house departs from the art museum and it was the highlight of my trip to Manchester. The docent was very knowledgeable about the house and had lots of information to share going from the design stage all the way through to how the house came into the museum's possession and the work that was needed to keep it in great condition for guests to walk through. Seeing a FLW house as it was actually lived in was magical.
