Elizabethan Gardens
Inside the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, look for Elizabethan Gardens, a memorial to the first colonists marked by renaissance statues and meticulously managed landscapes. The 4 hectare (10 acre) park features shaded paths that will lead you through forests and colorful plazas, and you'll see interpretive plaques with useful information about each important sight. Numerous art and craft workshops and festivities take place here throughout the year. Check out the garden shops, which offer a selection of plants, statuettes, candles, soaps, and sweets. PutElizabethan Gardens into our Manteo day trip planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

We visited this place on our way to the Outer Banks during Thanksgiving Week. They were preparing for Christmas. We all had a wonderful time!

We visited the gardens for the butterfly release and enjoyed it immensely. Our daughters loved watching the butterflies come to life and fly away before their eyes. The staff educated us on what butterflies enjoy and what we could add to our gardens to keep them happy and returning. We were even able to purchase a few plants at the small greenhouse they have on the grounds. Not to mention the beauty and serenity of the gardens. All of the hydrangeas were in full bloom and beautiful. It was like walking through a fairytale.

My fiance and myself visited here during our vacation and we had a wonderful time. Beautiful walking paths, gorgeous flowers, trees and other plants. The butterfly room was also nice and a lot of fun. Learned a little history thanks to some of signs and plaques posted around the gardens, which is nice for a history buff like myself. We spent hours walking the paths and taking in the sights. Fully recommend for everyone of all ages. It's a beautiful, almost magical place to visit.
