East Harbor's 7mi trail system leads through the many different habitats within the park. The Middle Harbor Trail skirts the southern edge of the Middle Harbor game sanctuary and includes a stop at a bird observation blind. The short Blackberry Trail near the camp check-in station invites campers to enjoy a pleasant evening stroll. Other foot trails near the swimming beach offer the opportunity to observe the flora and fauna of a beach community.
A thin stretch of sand beach juts north-ward into the waters of Erie, separating Middle Harbor from the lake. Part of this beach was damaged in 1972 by a storm, washing away a large section of the two-mile (3 km) beach. The current beach is a much smaller area to the north of the park, where swimming is permitted. More recently, four segmented offshore breakwaters have been constructed on the Northern section of beach, to sustain what is left of the sandy shoreline.
East Harbor State Park Reviews
We were able to get a nice shaded area in section A but there are no barriers between the site and no privacy. All sites have paved parking pad. Washrooms and showers are clean. Laundry facilities had... more »
Tent camping was good. Some sites were very small. Bathrooms were fairly clean and located throughout. Check in was easy and the camp store was handy. The beach was a little bit of a walk, but easy to... more »
If you want to stay here book early. This park is that nice. Full hookups to tent sites. Beach, playgrounds, trails, boat ramp and a great camp store. The park is a nice base camp to go out and explore, jump on the ferry or jet express to the islands for a great day of fun. Stop in the airport and see the war museum. If you love history, you will love this museum. Plus, at the airport, you can dine at the super cool diner too. A zoo is close by along with Cedar Point. Plan on a week and you will be back, because you won’t see everything the North Shore has to offer.
We've enjoyed a lot of campgrounds in Ohio and Pa and this like so many others State Campgrounds is top notch! The entire park is immaculate, the facilities have nature stone floors, the staff is friendly, you can rest all kinds of bikes, the offer movies, activities, disc golf, kayaking, boating, fishing, swimming, archery, trails, great camp sites, general store that's small but well stocked, firewood and a great beach with showers and vending. The area has everything to offer!
