Chateau O'Brien, Markham

#159 of 202 in Wineries in Virginia
Winery / Vineyard · Food & Drink
Chateau O’Brien at Northpoint is proud to be a family owned and operated winery, with owner Howard O’Brien personally pouring wine and sharing his intimate knowledge of the wines at the tasting bars. The winery is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northern Virginia, and has earned a reputation for producing hand-crafted wines of distinction in a variety of styles ranging from premium dry white varietals, to complex red blends with depth and integrity, and even a wildly popular Apple Dessert wine.

Our acclaim lies with ultra-premium individual red varietals, and blends, that are perfectly selected to our mountainside terroir and nurtured with vigilant safe farming practices. Howard O’ Brien Owner only believes in growing his own grapes, including Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre, Tempranillo and our world-renowned Tannat.

Our vineyard practices include growing white varietals such as, Albarino, Chardonnay, French Colombard, Pinot Grigio, Petit Manseng and we are always experimenting.

  • Have tasted here multiple times. Thought the 2012 was great, but have come to relish the 2013 even more.  more »
  • Hidden gem in NoVA. Best reds we have found in VA, excellent service and view. If you enjoy full bodied reds come here. The tasting room is quiet and well played out. Marc was our tasting host and showed us a great time, he knew what he was talking about and was appreciative of our thoughts on the wine. Well worth the prices and drive. We will be back, hopefully for the private tasting!
  • I would not in any way classify this place as snobby. We were immediately greeted with a warm welcome and all the information we needed to choose our tasting. They're on point with taste and value. Their wines are full body reds (we did the cellar tasting) and the wine educator was AMAZING, FRIENDLY AND GENEROUS. It's the experience we've been missing with the influx of virginia tasting rooms in the area. We enjoyed our tasting a purchased a bottle to split with our picnic lunch. We'll definitely be telling our valued friends about our experience.
