Chateau O’Brien at Northpoint is proud to be a family owned and operated winery, with owner Howard O’Brien personally pouring wine and sharing his intimate knowledge of the wines at the tasting bars. The winery is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northern Virginia, and has earned a reputation for producing hand-crafted wines of distinction in a variety of styles ranging from premium dry white varietals, to complex red blends with depth and integrity, and even a wildly popular Apple Dessert wine.

Our acclaim lies with ultra-premium individual red varietals, and blends, that are perfectly selected to our mountainside terroir and nurtured with vigilant safe farming practices. Howard O’ Brien Owner only believes in growing his own grapes, including Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvèdre, Tempranillo and our world-renowned Tannat.

Our vineyard practices include growing white varietals such as, Albarino, Chardonnay, French Colombard, Pinot Grigio, Petit Manseng and we are always experimenting.

  • Have tasted here multiple times. Thought the 2012 was great, but have come to relish the 2013 even more.

  • We went here with a friend from Wisconsin on a total whim. We were covered in cat hair, oil, and sawdust, and had a bunch of engine heads in our trunk. A few months ago we had gone to another local winery on a whim and got a bunch of looks like "what the heck are these guys doing here?", so we expected a similar experience. However, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the owner was very friendly and didn't really care that we weren't the typical winery clientele. He recommended us some great wines, and we even had a great chat with him for a while out on the patio. I don't know what's up with those four reviews from that one group three months ago that said the owner wouldn't server them. Either they posted reviews to the wrong winery, or they were demanding free wine or something.
  • Perfect tasting.... excellent wines. Our nieghborhood wine club loved it!
