Main Street is a national program born out of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Since 1980, the National Main Street Center has been working with communities across the nation to revitalize historic commercial areas. Based on historic preservation, the Main Street approach was developed to save historic commercial architecture, but has become a powerful economic development tool as well.Plan your visit to Historic Downtown McKinney and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our McKinney day trip app.
The Main Street program is designed to improve all aspects of downtown, producing both tangible and intangible benefits. Improving economic management, strengthening public participation and marketing downtown as a fun place to visit is as critical to Main Street's future as recruiting new businesses and rehabilitating buildings. Building on downtown's inherent assets - rich architecture, personal service, traditional values and most of all, a sense of place - the Main Street approach supports entrepreneurship, downtown cooperation and civic concern.
The Main Street program has earned national recognition as a practical strategy appropriately scaled to local resources and conditions. And because it is a locally-driven program, all initiatives stem from local issues and concerns.
Historic Downtown McKinney Reviews
There are a lot of unique shops on the square. Parking can be hard to find especially on the weekends. There are many great eating places, just depends on what you would like to eat. more »
This town has managed to keep the small town feel in the modern downtown area. Lots of choices for shopping and food within walking distance. Great way to spend good quality time outside on a... more »
So this place is too cute. Lots of streets to walk down around these old beautiful buildings. It gives you this nice downtown, small town feel. I almost expect the Gilmore Girls cast to walk by. I have only been here twice, but if I had to live in Texas, this place would be on the top of my list. A lot of cute stores, restaurants, and couples walking around holding hands. The people who work in these buildings seem genuinely happy and thoughtful. Again I have only been here twice, but I have had a nice time in both instances. Well dinne McKinney, well done.
Great place to take friends and families visiting. Lots of shops and restaurants to choose from. Great for photography as well since there’s so many different places you can go and they are only blocks apart. Lots of events as well throughout the year.
