Home to over 3,500 animals, Memphis Zoo features more than 500 species spread out through more than 31 hectares (76 acres). Bring good walking shoes, because a full loop of the park's exhibits is a 3.2 km (2 mi) walk. You can visit different habitats and regions of the world and their native animals, like the African Veldt, the Crocodile Cove, the Northwest Passage, and China. Don't miss the Dragon's Lair, an area dedicated entirely to the Komodo Dragon, the world's largest lizard. Before you go, check the zoo's online schedule for information on zookeeper talks, animal encounters, and feeding sessions. Memphis Zoo Reviews
I am a Zoo member and I go at least once a week. Of all the zoos I have ever been to Memphis is the best. The feeding time is the best time to get pictures of the Grizzlies and gorillas. The Memphis..... more »
We primarily went to see the pandas as my daughter is obsessed. They were out and active. There was a keeper that gave us a great insight into pandas. She answered all our questions and we had a ton..... more »
I have visited a few zoos across different countries and this is by far the best. The zoo is well laid out and the Egyptian theme runs through it. I was very excited to see a Grizzly, polar and panda bears in a single zoo. The animals look very healthy and active. The gift shops are brimming with various different items. It is a great place for a family day out.
We absolutely LOVED our visit today! We were able to navigate the park easily, and had surprise discoveries along the way. My children spent the day laughing and smiling at the antics of the well taken care of animals. My only grumble about our visit is that the water stations were non-existent! We brought water bottles and were barely able to fill them a third of the way with the water fountains, and I had just assumed that was what was meant by the advertised "water filling stations". I was wrong. Near the exit, there was a lady with one of the orange water coolers. Just one.....and that was the only water station there today. That was our only disappointment during our visit. Even visiting on a Saturday where the volume of people was astounding, we had no trouble seeing and participating in every attraction! It was supremely hot today, but there was plenty of shade, and opportunities to get out of the heat with indoor attractions. I recommend this zoo to anyone who is thinking of visiting with their family!
