Mendocino Headlands State Park is a California State Park in Mendocino, California. It consists of 347 acres (1.4 km2) of undeveloped seaside bluffs and islets surrounding the town of Mendocino, two beaches (Big River Beach and Portuguese Beach), and the much larger Big River Unit stretching for eight miles (13 km) along both banks of the nearby Big River.

The park began operation in 1974, after several years of concern and discussion from citizens about the possibility of blufftop development. The Big River Unit was added in 2002.

  • Walked down some steep stairs to a sweet little beach on the headlands…no one there but us! Enjoyed the solitude.

  • Absolutely incredible breathtaking views and a very easy hike that my husband and I were able to enjoy with our pup. Highly recommend this trail for visitors. The trail ends near housing that you can follow into the main town. Such a quaint cute little town. We were so happy about it
  • Lovely bluff trails that follow near the road and pinnacle trails out that allow for views of the imposing but beautiful coastline. Maybe a 2 mile bluff walk round trip. Accessible for the whole family but not wheelchair accessible unless you stay to the road. It is often windy and can be cold - bring a windbreaker and thermal layer if you are prone to get cold!
