  • The Hanford Mills Museum is definitely worth a detour. Located less than 10 miles from Interstate 88 in Oneonta, New York, you get to see a water-powered mill in the Catskills. RVers, parking is...  more »
  • Fascinating to see all the old mill machines working on water power! Docents were very knowledgeable and demonstrated how the old machines worked (and are still in use). Lovely property to wander...  more »
  • We went to the ice harvest and it was super cool to see. Lots of tools of the trade on display and some video of how it was done in times past. It was a really cool way to spend a cold day.
  • Love this place! Been going here periodically since late 90s, & most recently last wk for their yearly Ice Festival. Wholesome "family" fun that's great for the kiddies & everyone else. Altho the festival is well organized w/tours throughout the yr, you can do "self-guided" tours & just wander around the buildings & property. From the sawmill (in summer we watched the lumber being cut/processed), to its amazing waterwheel & all the complex workings that once powered entire mill - a thrill to see it run! There are several other bldgs to explore and all have helpful plaques to explain history & usages if you're not w/a guide. The staff is always super friendly and helpful as well. Top notch!
