Mesilla Plaza is the central plaza in the small town of Mesilla in far southern New Mexico. The plaza and a number of its surrounding buildings are a National Historic Landmark District, significant for its role in the transfers of power that brought first the original New Mexico Territory and later the Gadsden Purchase into United States control. The most notable building facing the plaza is the Basilica of San Albino, which has been on the plaza since its establishment in 1851. The plaza was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1961.

  • We enjoyed wandering around the several blocks of the Old Town. There was nice shade on the square and the church that anchors the area was fairly impressive. My wife appreciated the retail therapy....  more »

  • I love the plaza. You can sit on a bench in the plaza and eat ice cream or sit and just watch everything going on around you. You can go in all the little shops around the plaza and find some beautiful items, food items, jewelry, clothing, books and the list goes on. Nambe is a must, such elegant kitchen items and perfect store for doing some wedding registry items or a gift that will make a lasting impression. Also, kids love the Billy The Kid, store that is a must for kiddos. The Plaza is just a great spot and great for candid pictures
  • Very cute plaza with shops, restaurants, the church which is a land mark, totally worth checking out. They also run a market on Wednesday and weekends which is fun to checkout. There is a free parking lot and plenty of street parking if you're coming by car.
