Discover the colorful history of the city's distinct architecture with a walk through Art Deco Historic District, boasting nearly 1,000 historical buildings. Bounded by the Atlantic on its eastern side, the district houses vibrantly colored buildings built during an era when the city advertised itself as a "tropical playground." Laid out rapidly in the 1920s and the 1930s, the area developed almost exclusively in the Art Deco, Mediterranean Revival, and Modern styles of architecture. For a self-guided tour of the district's renowned hotels, restaurants, bars, cafes, galleries, and shops, rent a bicycle at any one of nearly 100 bike rental stations scattered around the city. Beautiful buildings. Just a warning that liquor stores close ridiculously early here, like 7 pm. So that bottle of wine you were going to pick up? Think again plus Miami Beach automatically charges... more »

This is a a great historic district. I stayed the night here at a hotel and was satisfied with my experience. This historic district has many Art Deco hotels, all of which look very nice. There’s a large park between the beach and Ocean Dr, which is pretty nice. There are also many restaurants and bars in this historic district, which is pretty nice. The historic district is laid out to be three streets wide and as long as South Beach. Ocean Dr, which is by the ocean, Collins Ave, which has larger hotels than Ocean Dr, and Washington Ave, which is wider and has tall condos on it, are the three streets that go through the historic district.

Ocean Ave is blocked off to traffic so the restaurants can expand their patio seating. Honestly it’s pretty nice to not have to worry about cars everywhere. Beautiful to look at all the architecture. Wonderful beachfront park.
