Originally settled in the eighteenth century, the farm became a well-known horse farm, the home of General Billy Mitchell, a pioneer of military aviation, and now the site of Rita and John Kent Cooke's Boxwood Winery. Cooke and his team at Boxwood are committed to making premium red wines in the Bordeaux tradition with their own unique Virginia expression. Production is limited to 2,500 cases

  • This truly felt like a VIP experience. The property is beautiful and the staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We did the "summer board" experience which included a loaded charcuterie board.....  more »
  • Boxwood was the second stop of a recent wine tour. Nice wines. Excellent finger foods. Friendly staff. No large views of the vineyards and such but it was still nice.  more »
  • What a beautiful winery! We enjoyed our tasting and Erin (I think her name was) was lovely in explaining not only the wines, but the winery itself. She was very accommodating. We bought a few glasses and also had a cheese plate that was beyond delicious! One of the more romantic wineries as we were allowed to walk among the vineyards. The outdoor space was gorgeous and even though it is a large winery it had that feeling you get when visiting a home of someone you know.
  • Came here for a group tasting. The group tasting was on the more expensive side but I wanted to try this winery out. My experience at the winery itself was very enjoyable and the staff were great. However, after being told on the phone that the tasting would cost $20 per person, we showed up on the day of the event and I was charged that plus a mandatory 18% gratuity. This automatic gratuity was never mentioned to me when I called to make the reservation. I called to discuss this matter and dealt with an extremely rude person that refused to even apologize, let alone make the situation right.
