Offering seemingly endless opportunities for exploring and general adventure, Silver Sands State Park features long stretches of beaches, sand dunes, salt marshes, and woods. The park was established following the 1955 hurricane that destroyed many local homes. Come for the swimming, hiking, and bird watching, and stay for the picnicking spots and long walks. The water is clear and warm, offering nature lovers a clear window into the world of seashells and schools of fish. A bird sanctuary makes up part of the park, and is the rumored home of Captain Kidd's buried treasure. • We snagged a picnic table under the shade for lunch, then started walking out towards the island. The tides change every day so be sure to check if you want to go so the way out. Got to see some...

  • What an awesome park. This was and unexpected place that I got to check out because I was staying in an Airbnb nearby here the boardwalk is awesome you could walk for an hour and put in area takes you into a nature preserve. It really reminded me of my time in Florida except here there's no alligators or snakes or snapping turtles. If I came back to this area to stay I would definitely come back to this park because it's a cool Little Gym and who would have thought that Connecticut had such an amazing water view by the ocean. Not this California Guy for sure
  • I'm not usually a big fan of beaches but this one is really dynamic and diverse. There are boardwalks over marshes, a sandspit to an island with beautiful birds on it that you can reach at low tide, and shell covered beaches. Even on a foggy day, it was beautiful and fascinating.
