Garnet Ghost Town reviews
The road up from I90 was bumpy and not suitable for wet/rainy conditions. It has a lot of blind turns and you need a decent 4 wheel drive to make the trip. With that said it was a beautiful drive..... more »
This is a great place for everyone if you love history or are just interested in seeing how an old mining town looked. There are pit toilets at the main parking lot which is on a rise above the town..... more »
Garnet Ghost Town has always been one of my favorite places to visit. They have done a spectacular job with preserving it. They have tour maps available there that tell you what the buildings are. Most of them are open for you to be able to go into and explore. There is a fee to visit there, I believe it is $5 a person, or $20 a family. The placards outside the buildings give a great history of them. There is a gift shop there, and an on site Ranger until 4pm. I definitely recommend visiting there, but make sure you have good tires on your car as it is a few miles up a winding dirt road.
Places like Garnet are just amazing to go to with the next generation. It's the link to a past that we shouldn't forget. It is an easy hike down to the town and a nice drive up the mountain to where you park. We even had Huckleberry bushes to snack from while we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. The staff was on hand and very knowledgeable and friendly to answer any questions we had. Must see for Montana 👍
