Landmark · Tourist Spot
Russian/Moorish-styled Corn Palace, decorated with murals and designs from corn and other grains, features a new design every year. New murals are designed annually out of more than 275,000 ears of corn to cover the outside of the building. This tradition began in 1892, when town officials decided to showcase crops in an effort to get pioneers to realize the potential of the soil so they would settle in the area. Today, the palace is a multipurpose building, hosting numerous community events and exhibits. You can see pictures from the previous years' happenings. • not so sure this is the "ONLY" Corn Palace in the world as touted.. I vividly recall my aunt and Uncle Lou describing one they saw somewhere else in the Midwest - was it Nebraska??? - several years....  more »
  • Definitely worth the side trip to see this iconic site. The outside is obviously the main attraction but don't miss the history on display inside.  more »

  • A must see just for the historical significance. The murals are very cool. Take the time to go inside and read some of the timeline displays on the walls. Good bathroom stop. Easy parking. Walk to some of the other historic buildings in the beautiful old town area.
  • I hate to give this place a 4 star because the art was amazing but I guess I thought this was a place to tour and see stuff inside and I was underwhelmed. It is a large arena where concerts are held and the outside of the building has art made of corn. You could basically get the feel just driving around it. We did discover a really unique spot across the road where a guy set up an entire village of biblical times with a play land for kids. That was more interesting than the corn palace personally.
