Imposing cliffs, geological formations, and rugged mesas define Dead Horse Point State Park. In the days of westward expansion, cowboys kept wild mustangs atop the point because it served as a natural corral. Featuring an outcropping of red rock rising 610 m (2,000 ft) above the Colorado River, the park offers more than 2,100 hectares (5,300 acres) that you can explore on foot or by bike. Bike trails cover 27 km (17 mi) along and through the canyons. Several paved footpaths offer hiking options. Keep in mind that the area's elevation of nearly 1,800 m (5,900 ft) can cause you to tire more easily than at a lower altitude. Dead Horse Point State Park is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , international travel planner Edition.

Absolutely loved this park! I thought it was as good as most of the national parks we have been to. We were here hiking for 4 1/2 hours. The east trail was beautiful and easier than the west trail. The west trail you had to walk over some rocks and it was difficult for us to see the trail markers. They called us the little Grand Canyon. We got here at 9:30 in the morning and there was no one on the trail until about 11 o’clock. I would definitely advise this park and think $20 is reasonable. This was the nicest place with indoor plumbing and the cleanest bathrooms. Be careful with small children because there are not guard rails. People were letting their children run right up to the edge and stand on rocks. My husband said it was a 1400 foot drop off which is the height of the Sears/Willis tower observation deck. One child tripped and we thought he was going to fall.

This site is great if you want to mountain bike - there are so many biking trails and options. The view of the bend in the river was also beautiful!! We enjoyed this quick stop but did not stay for long since we were looking for more hiking options. We should have researched a bit first before visiting.
