The Art Deco State Theatre was built in 1934 by S. Charles Lee and is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. After decades as a film house, the State was converted into a community arts center and concert hall. It was remodeled during the 1990s. In June 2005, the new non-profit State Theatre of Modesto, Inc. was created and, for the first time since its opening, the State Theatre has been transformed by a fully comprehensive film going palace.Put The State Theatre on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Modesto trip maker app .

The State Theatre Reviews
Nice old fashioned theater. Great community theater with art house type movies & live music events. Beer & wine available. more »
The acoustics are excellent, the seating is not too cozy down lower. The State brings some great musical guests into Modesto, with the ticket prices fairly affordable, especially for a smaller venue. more »
Beautiful restored theater. Nice seats. The interior is done well. It's nice that cities are taking pride in their downtown area.
Old school theatre with quirky fun events and activities. Great place to take young kids with learning events from time to time. Also has fun adult events also. I hope this place sticks around forever.
