  • We enjoyed riding out bikes over the James River to the "island" and back. Nice and shady, places to stop and see the river and overall good easy bike trail.  more »
  • This stop on the Blue Ridge Parkway is a good walk with an educational look at the beginning of James River boat traffic.  more »

  • Awesome place to visit, lots of history there and easy access to the James River. Great place for picnics, swimming and much more! The historic lock that is there is an amazing feat of antique engineering and the history is explained before you cross the foot bridge to get to the lock. There are restroom facilities at this location and plenty of places to rest and enjoy nature.
  • Beautiful trails and scenery. Visitors center itself is a bit small, but overall a nice experience.
