Jacks Peak Park has much to offer the outdoor enthusiast. Almost 8.5 miles of horseback riding and hiking trails wind through cathedral-like forests and to breathtaking ridge top vistas. The Skyline Self-Guided Nature Trail traverses the summit of Jacks Peak and features fossils from the Miocene epoch. Brochures describing features along the trail are available at the entrance station. Visitors can also enjoy other passive activities including nature study, photography or picnics.Make Jacks Peak County Park a centerpiece of your Monterey vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Monterey online day trip planner .

Multiple trails from easy to more challenging. Beautiful views of Monterey Bay and Carmel Valley as you meandering through the forest. more »
Super fun trail running. A lot of quick ups and downs. There aren't a ton of miles to be had here but with a couple loops you can have a great run. Definitely worth the two hour drive in Saturday morning traffic.
8-1/2 miles of hiking trails cover terrain from pine forest to chaparral and offer views of Monterey, Seaside, and the bay as well as Carmel Valley. Jack's Peak itself is a short walk uphill from one of two parking areas, but most of the hikes start high and descend as much as 600 feet in elevation, so be prepared to hike uphill on your way back to your car. The picnic areas are beautiful, and the bathrooms have plumbing and sinks - not pit toilets. I often see large tiger swallowtail butterflies here in early summer; the males patrol canyons and hilltops for females. Jack's Peak is a beautiful place for a picnic, hike, or short stroll.
