Orr Park, Montevallo

#73 of 184 in Parks in Alabama
Must see · Park · Nature / Park
Dubbed one of the most unique parks and nature preserves in the south, Orr Park, bordering the picturesque Shoal Creek, is Montevallo’s crowning jewel. This forty-acre park features traditional amenities such as athletic fields, playgrounds, a walking trail, picnic tables, pavilions, a gazebo and restroom facilities but the magical cedar tree carvings throughout Tinglewood remain our greatest local attraction. Pedestrians and cyclists traveling throughout the park are as likely to amble by gnomes, a dragon or a fish eating a snake as they are to pass by a local family walking their dog. Tinglewood is solely credited to Mr. Tim Tingle, a coal miner by trade, who took it upon himself to transform storm-damaged cedar trees into glorious works of art in the early 1990’s. He continues to bless the city with his talents up to today for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Park Hours: sun-up to sun-down – free admission to the park across the creek; admission charges for select sporting events only at athletic fields

Facilities available by reservation only though our facilities and reservations portal ( or by calling Montevallo City Hall (205) 665-2555.

  • It's a great place to go walking, jogging, or running with a track that goes around the whole park. It's also great for dogs! A place to have a child's birthday party with 2 playground located inside the park. A freezing cold creek all year round but kids love to play in and you can dip your toes in. Also almost every tree in the park has faces carved into them which is usually what the park is known for.
  • We had heard about this area so decided to take a side trip and have a look. It is a charming small park, beautifully kept. We especially enjoyed the carvings done by a local artist using dead trees and stumps. Glad we made the effort to drop by on our trip from NC to Texas.
