Living Free Animal Sanctuary, Mountain Center

#441 of 480 in Wildlife in California
Nature / Park · Hidden Gem · Wildlife Area
The Sanctuary was founded in 1980 by Emily Jo Beard, a visionary determined to stop the number of healthy animals from being killed in shelters simply because of overcrowding. Emily purchased 160 acres in the San Jacinto Mountains as a home and safe haven for rescued cats and dogs. State-of-the-art kennels and catteries were erected on the site. Ms. Beard passed away in 1989, but not before seeing her dream come true. Her legacy lives on as a driving force to us all – to save one innocent animal’s life at a time.

  • This place is always so inspiring! Jo, the Education Leader is full of fun facts and interesting tidbits. I recommend this place if you're looking to adopt a new family member. The animals come first and are very well taken care of. I love their policy that an animal always had a home there even if they get returned or never adopted. Living Free, truly allows animals to Live Free!
