The museum at Foxfire comprises over 106 acres on which students have relocated 10 authentic pioneer log cabins and built more than a dozen other structures from period materials, following traditional methods of construction. The property is filled with artifacts, tools, and handcrafted housewares, toys and folk art, providing a glimpse into the lives of the people who tamed and thrived in the Appalachian wilderness more than 180 years ago. Additionally, The Foxfire archive, housed at the museum and at University of Georgia’s Russell Library, features recorded interviews, transcriptions, photographs, and film collected by the Foxfire students over the lifetime of the program.By using our Mountain City online attractions planner, you can arrange your visit to Foxfire Museum and other attractions in Mountain City.

Really neat place. Leave about two hours to amble through all there is to see. The displays are very professionals and really interesting. The staff is also really great. If you’re in the area it’s...

A great place to visit if u are interested in Appalachin culture as seen in the early years of 1900's. The trail going into the area is about .5 miles but is quite hilly. U can drive up the trail if there are not other cars there. Definitely think it is worth the trek. Also has a nice little gift shop on site.

I've been a fan and collector of the Foxfire series since I was barely a teenager. Had the opportunity to wander here. Worth the trip. In addition to the exhibits of Appalachian homesteading and arts and crafts, there's a small exhibit on the Trail of Tears. As North Carolina was the origin of the series, and the Cherokee, it was a bit incongruous to find the museum in northern Georgia, but worth the trip. Dog friendly! The trails through the exhibits can be a bit steep, and barring the interiors of the cabins it is fully out of doors, so experience is dependent on weather. Crystal at reception/ ticketing was lovely. Senior discount available.
