Brookgreen Gardens plays home to a sculpture park with 1,400 pieces of art, trails, nature reserves, and a zoo. Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington bought the property, which was originally four plantations, to showcase her figurative sculptures in an outdoor environment. Wander through lush, moss-draped coastal vegetation, along riverbanks, and across rich marshland at this National Historic Landmark that opened to the public in 1932. Watch for local wildlife and numerous archaeological sites, or visit the on-site Lowcountry Zoo and its dedicated center for rehabilitating injured animals. We planned visiting this having little idea how amazing this place would be. Despite the chill (low 40's), it was a great day. This is 900 acres of nature trails, sculpture exhibits and displays...

We go to Brookgreen several times per year, and it is always remarkably beautiful, but we just got back from the Nights of a Thousand Candles event, and I must say that it was one of the most...

What a surprising and beautiful place! Took a break from the beach to check it out on our last day in town. We spent 4 hours here and enjoyed the zoo, butterfly house and the sculptures. There was plenty of shade and areas out of the sun. Highly recommended this if you enjoy botanical gardens. The trees with the moss are totally breathtaking. The sculptures and gardens are so peaceful and beautiful. A great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas.

Beautiful place. Amazing sculptures, trees, flowers, everything. Very clean and well kept up. Staff is nice!the gift shop prices were way too high though. Sadly the butterfly garden was closed but tons of animals to look at! Definitely worth the stop!
