Brookgreen Gardens plays home to a sculpture park with 1,400 pieces of art, trails, nature reserves, and a zoo. Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington bought the property, which was originally four plantations, to showcase her figurative sculptures in an outdoor environment. Wander through lush, moss-draped coastal vegetation, along riverbanks, and across rich marshland at this National Historic Landmark that opened to the public in 1932. Watch for local wildlife and numerous archaeological sites, or visit the on-site Lowcountry Zoo and its dedicated center for rehabilitating injured animals. We were visiting Myrtle Beach a bit before the season, and I'm so glad we stopped here. There were still plenty of visitors, but I think there would have to be a very large number before it would feel too full. The sculptures were beautiful; but to me the gardens themselves were the highlight. The flowers and landscaping are very well kept, and the enormous trees are a joy. All the buildings, paths, walkways etc. are in good condition and lovely to see. The water features are beautiful as well. In short, the whole experience was wonderful. (We focused on the gardens and did not see the zoo.)

Really beautiful place and well worth the price, which is quite meager considering the beautiful day we just had. As Yankees from up north, we were especially happy to see the beautiful Southern flora. Also, the sculptures are really interesting and beautiful to see. Would love to come back. Thanks to their really nice staff.
