#1 of 8 in Things to do in Muscatine
Pine Creek Grist Mill was built in 1848 by Benjamin Nye, Muscatine County's first settler. The Mill is located in Wldcat den State Park, along the banks of Pine Creek and 1/2 mile from the Mississippi. It seems to be one of the 2 oldest working grist mills between the Mississippi and the Rockies (still on its original site).

  • Definitely worth a visit, especially if you can see it in operation. There are four floors, all of which are interesting to look at. They take donations and there is a very little store inside. Outside, there is a lovely dam and stream that you can wade in, and a historic bridge to walk across. The mill is pet-friendly, which we greatly appreciated.
  • Fascinating journey back in time. Plus, they crank the mill up for demos!
