Kitty Hawk Kites Hang Gliding School, Nags Head

A friend and I did the 2000 foot tandem high hang glide during our Outer Banks trip. What a nice experience we had! The staff was friendly, and told us what to expect every step of the way. There were no surprises and I felt quite relaxed. We were towed up to 2000 feet by an ultralight plane, then untethered to glide around and land a short while later. The views were amazing, and the landing smoother than I could have imagined. Insider tidbit: The Cotton Gin "Airport" is a runway adjacent to a vineyard. Make sure you know where you're going because there are Cotton Gin retail stores in the Outer Banks. It can be confusing!

We took our family of four (boys 8,10) to go hangliding in the park. This team taught our entire group to fly by tailoring their methods to our individual abilities. We were greeted and introduced to the sport by Billy. He was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and extremely skilled in teaching. Our group instructor was Elias and he had the patience of Job and was great with me, a 41 year old mom who tried to take his head off with the glider on my first two crash landings. My kids and husband were naturals and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. While thrilling and entertaining, it is a beginner course that introduces you to the sport. Don’t think like my kids and hope the next round you’ll be sailing over the Dunes into the Atlantic. We highly recommend this outfit to anyone in the area!
