It was a series of shared experiences between Ellie Anest and Aurelien Roulin which led to the creation of ElevenEleven Wines.Put Eleven Eleven Winery on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Napa trip planning app.
French-born, but of Swiss heritage, Aurelien was raised in the ancient wine-growing region of Jura between Burgundy and Switzerland. At the age of twenty, Aurelien came to the US to pursue a career in acting, acrobatics and entertainment. During his time in the US, Aurelien lived in both Los Angeles and Napa. This time in Napa awakened his family heritage and passion for wine.
American-born, but of Greek heritage, Ellie gained an appreciation for the land from her father's farm in Nebraska where she was raised with her three sisters. She and her family moved to California where she attended college in San Diego and soon found herself living and working in the fast-paced, competitive world of Southern California, as a business executive.
So, it was a chance encounter that led to their immediate connection on the flight home from Paris to LA in April 2010. And, it was a series of shared moments in the Napa Valley where these two friends decided to become business partners and purchase vineyards in the Oak Knoll district to satisfy their craving for wine country lifestyle. And, it was their unending curiosity which motivated them to inquire with Kirk Venge how to best make wine that would represent their collective history, passion for wine, and love of the land.
Before long, it all came together. They had fulfilled their dreams and followed their intuition to become vintners in the Napa Valley.
Like spotting 11:11 on a clock, it was a moment of synchronicity. They felt alive and connected. They paused to reflect on the past, looked ahead to the future, and enjoyed the very moment. To them, this is what it was all about.. Becoming present. Listening to their hearts. Appreciating those around them. Being receptive to new experiences and welcoming the unknown.
And our chance meeting
Are no coincidence.
The road here is behind us
And the path ahead is unknown.
Together we share this moment.
The time is now...

We arrived unannounced and were able to book a tasting within an hour. We were greeted at the door with a Sauvignon Blanc which we picked up a bottle of at the end. Our host Jermaine took us on a tour of the winery mid tasting and showed us the various spaces they have available as well as the room where the wine is aged (picture). That room can be rented out for gatherings and lunches, as can several others which range from formal to casual. Jermaine opened a bottle of 2014 Syrah for us to try, one of less than 20 bottles left. We bought another so there aren't many left. Their Pinot Noir rivals the best of what Oregon has to offer (and we'd just been wine tasting in Oregon a week prior). Their Cabernet Sauvignon offerings are diverse enough to find a good paring with many foods. One had hints of blueberries, blackberries and plums and another had an earthiness with notes of cherry and citrus, for instance. The grounds are tucked away in a little oasis behind a commercial zone but is everything you'd expect from a Napa Valley vinyard. The art on the walls is for sale and painted by our very host Jermaine himself. The art is quite good and I have my eye on one of his paintings for a space I'm working on at my home. All in all, this was a great tasting in an amazing environment with friendly and knowledgeable people. The paintings become a metaphor for the winery; true artisanship.
Super chill place. Although all the wines were not for my palette my friend did like them and we walked away happy because we were able to have a good time and check out a new place. The hospitality is top notch and tastings are very intimate and spaced out. While we were there it was just us and one other group allowed at a time so felt very safe and comfortable in their outdoor setting.
