  • What a wonderful historic site - it’s privately owned so it’s important to support the Hermitage. Gorgeous 50-acre plantation that holds the original Hermitage and the mansion also known as such that was later constructed. Take the trail on the backside of the property if you’d like to see the gorgeous forest the property is on, the old cotton field, deer and wild turkeys - gorgeous nature! Nice staff guides you around the mansion. Worth the $20/person!
  • Exquisite Garden and Grounds: The Hermitage grounds are beautiful. I particularly liked Rachel Jackson’s Garden. Ask for “Jenny” in the garden. She was very knowledgeable and knew the names of each and every variety. The garden is beautifully and historically maintained with heirloom varieties of flowers, plants, bushes, and trees from back in the day. I had a great visit!
  • If you're a history buff like me then you will enjoy it. Extremely detailed information as to who Jackson was and what he contributed to this country. There's more to them than people realize. You are allowed to take photographs but they do not allow it inside his mansion. Not sure why but I respect it. For adults it's $20 per person but I am unsure about children.
  • Excellent information well described including info on women, slaves, econony etc. Don't miss the duel. It explained so many interesting details about culture and values in the early 1800s. Docents have basic knowledge. Be sure to walk the grounds to see where the cotton was grown, slave quarters etc There is a cart for those unable to walk. Don't have to go to the second floor of the mansion. Be sure to visit the dining room and kitchens accessible from outside and push the button to start the electronic explanation. This is such a great place. We had guests from age 12-75 and didn't more than 3hrs. Everyone loved it.
  • The Hermitage is a great place to bring kids and adults alike to learn about the history of not only The Hermitage, but history in the south. I think the Hermitage does a great job of telling about the horrible fate of the Natives and African Americans, in this period of time, without "sugar-coating" things to make Andrew Jackson look like a hero. It is carefully constructed to make guest of any color feel respected but also interested in learning more about the seventh president and the Hermitage plantation. The staff here are amazing. They know their history! I asked numerous questions of our tour guides ( I was there during a special event), and they were able to answer all my questions in detail. It's a gorgeous property and the amount of original pieces are amazing. It was worth the money and I will visit again.
