Belmont Mansion, Nashville

4.4
Belmont Mansion is an Italianate villa constructed between the years 1849 and 1853. Through the years, it has been the summer home for Nashville socialite Adelicia Acklen and her family, temporary headquarters of the Union army, and an all-girls college and seminary. One of the most elaborate antebellum homes in the South, with 36 rooms and 19,000 square feet, the entire Belmont estate was built, furnished, and landscaped by the Acklens and boasted such luxuries as lavish gardens, an art gallery, a bowling alley, and a zoo.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1971, Belmont Mansion currently operates as a house museum, maintained by the Belmont Mansion Association through admissions, venue rentals, event fundraisers and individual and company donations

  • We only saw the outside of the Mansion, but Belmont University where this mansion sits is absolutely breathtaking. The University has taken the architecture of the mansion and incorporated in most of ...  more »
  • The story of Adelecia Acklen is very interesting. She was a forward-thinking woman for her time and certainly looked out for her own interests. Our guide was very informative and engaging. The mansion...  more »
  • What a woman! Family disassembled furnishing long ago. Some pieces are ‘of the period’ but very interesting. Steep walk, not much parking. Good guide. Small but interesting gift shop.  more »

  • A must see! The story is compelling, the architecture and the decor is so incredible. We only had time for one historical mansion and this one won over the Hermitage. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and entertaining, very glad we toured.
  • Currently the house is under restoration. The entry fee accommodates the fact that you can not see the whole thing. What can be seen is very good and we enjoyed the guided tour. Would be 5 stars if we got to see the full tour. They are working on it though. Please keep in mind of when this was posted as the remodel may be finished. Would not hurt to call first.
  • Good for those interested in the history. Not a plantation tho. Also, you can't walk around and must be part of a tour that takes 60 minutes. Lady who gave the tour was very knowledgeable... Wouldn't recommend it for a quick stop.
  • My daughter and I loved this experience! Our tour guide Sarah was super knowledgeable and we learned so many interesting things. Belmont Mansion is beautiful. 😀
  • My wife and i loved Belmont Mansion. It is beautiful. Unfortunately not all the buildings and land remain. Kelsey was our guide, and she did a great job telling the Belmont story, especially the story of Adelicia Acklen. My wife and I were still talking about the mansion, artifacts and stories two days later. Google Maps did a good job getting us to the mansion from Belle Meade Plantation. There is a small parking lot beside the mansion. Walk up to the front door, which is locked, and ring the doorbell once. It is heard in the gift shop, so someone will let you in and escort you to the gift shop where you purchase your tickets and where the guided tour starts. I recommend trying to avoid driving to and/from Belmont Mansion during rush hour. Belmont University is on Belmont, covering almost all of the land. The little that is left is nice to see. The guided tour is about an hour long and covers two floors. The cupola is off limits, but as every room, it has a story too. Adelicia's story is very interesting. Her story and all the stuff she accumulated made the tour very interesting and entertaining.
