Belmont Mansion is an Italianate villa constructed between the years 1849 and 1853. Through the years, it has been the summer home for Nashville socialite Adelicia Acklen and her family, temporary headquarters of the Union army, and an all-girls college and seminary. One of the most elaborate antebellum homes in the South, with 36 rooms and 19,000 square feet, the entire Belmont estate was built, furnished, and landscaped by the Acklens and boasted such luxuries as lavish gardens, an art gallery, a bowling alley, and a zoo.Using our custom trip planner, Nashville attractions like Belmont Mansion can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1971, Belmont Mansion currently operates as a house museum, maintained by the Belmont Mansion Association through admissions, venue rentals, event fundraisers and individual and company donations
Belmont Mansion Reviews
Great tour! I expected to get some knowledge of the structure and all the stuff inside, but it turned out to be an informative story of a strong independent woman and her family. Filled with facts and examples of what it's was like way back then. Highly recommend!! Oh... Not to mention they have the cutest little giftshop with a wide variety of souvenirs. All the staff very kind and nice.
We really enjoyed our visit to the Belmont mansion. I love architecture, and the Italianate style is one of my favorites. The tour guide was knowledgeable and thorough, easy to understand. I feel like we actually got more out of this than we did Andrew Jackson's Hermitage. It's always fascinating to dive back into history and find out how people lived and worked, and realize that they shared many of the same personal struggles as we do today, in spite of the lack of technological advances.
