The extensive collection includes cultural artifacts, newspapers, photographs, manuscripts, letters, maps, monographs, audiotapes, municipal records, and periodicals.
Through its museum division, the Sophienburg seeks to fulfill the role of celebrating public history through exhibits, community outreach, traveling trunk programs, public lectures, and other events. The archives division preserves, processes and makes available for research the collection of documents, historic papers, photographs, and the oral history program Reflections. Sophienburg Museum Reviews
Very interesting museum. Seeing actual artifacts and learning about the German immigrants who risked it all to find freedom from high taxes and an over-bearing government laws. more »
History of the city with it's founder. Artifacts and displays from the 19th century. There is a trunk the German Count who founded the city with good and tools brought over from Germany. more »
Really cool history but it is kinda pricey $8 for an adult for such a small museum, I thought there would be more, but if you are into German history of Texas it is worth it.
Clean quiet and well maintained. Staff was friendly and knowledgable.
