Nestled in the old Garden District, Lafayette Cemetery No.1 features ornate aboveground tombs. In the 1800s, bodies would often be left at the gate for the cemetery staff to care for. As you wander the property, you'll find unusual causes of death carved onto some stones. You'll also see society tombs here, among which is the YMCA tomb. Site tours are available; contact an established tour company for a guided tour. Lafayette Cemetery No.1 reviews
Very cool place! Found a self-guided tour online, and went at our own speed. Beautiful historic cemetery. Parking is plentiful nearby, so no need to Uber if you have a car. Walk around the Garden District when you're finished, grab a bite pretty much anywhere, and you have yourself a lovely day.
Wander thru the cemetery to feel what is like to be forgotten. (Being ironic here). Nice place to visit if you got 20 minutes to spare.
