Opened in 1911, it is the city's oldest institution for fine arts. You'll find works by Picasso, Renoir, Monet, and Jackson Pollock on display inside, and 2 hectares (five acres) of sculpture gardens on the museum's grounds. The sculpture garden showcases over 60 sculptures by artists from around the world and includes mature pine, magnolia, and oak trees. • The museum is on the small side but the price is reasonable. We spent under 2 hours in it. It is worth a visit if you are in the area.  more »

  • A beautiful building housing lovely exhibits. Spanning 3 floors and a sculpture park, this gallery has something for everyone. Ancient antiquities and modern interpretations fill the rooms providing learning and discussion opportunities everywhere. Make sure you have enough time to do it justice, each floor can take you 60-90 minutes to really review all the exhibits. Children are welcomed although there is nothing specific for them. The museum is surrounded by the wonderful city park which has a massive lake. So enough there to spend a whole day.
  • A fine midsize Museum tucked away in City Park of New Orleans. It has an adjoining Sculpture Garden which is now in the process of expanding which is a joy to wander through and that part is free. On Wednesdays the museum is free for Louisiana residents. It has a small but impressive collection of impressionistic art including Degas, Renoir, Monet, Manet, and others. The Renaissance collection is also very impressive. And the cafe that adjoins the museum is also a treat to spend an afternoon on a free Wednesday with a glass of purchased wine and maybe some sliders.
  • New Orleans landmark. The permanent collections alone deserves regular visits time after time. When special exhibits tours come through town, triggers another visit. I took advantage of August Museum Month to visit many (15 others) other New Orleans Museums for free. On a beautiful day, stroll on the adjoining parks. Parking was easy.
  • Please visit and enjoy. This is a well appointed world-class museum that takes you on an art history tour beginning in the 1000's and ending with late modern. I don't think I've ever spent so much time reading in a fine arts museum but the descriptions accompanying each piece are interesting, well written and informative. Get a 4-year degree in Art History by speding a day here. The French Quarter? Really?
  • Wonderful experience. Great art from before the renaissance to modern times. The sculpture garden is a nice added feature with path that is beautifully set on the museum grounds. A must see if you're planning a trip to NOLA.
