Metro Pictures is a New York City art gallery founded in 1980 by Janelle Reiring, previously of Castelli Gallery, and Helene Winer, previously of Artists Space. It was located in SoHo until 1995 when it was among the first wave of galleries to move to Chelsea.
Metro's opening group exhibition in 1980 included Cindy Sherman, Robert Longo, Troy Brauntuch, Jack Goldstein, Sherrie Levine, James Welling, and Richard Prince.
During the early and mid-1980s, Mike Kelley, Louise Lawler, Martin Kippenberger, John Miller, Tony Oursler, Walter Robinson and Jim Shaw joined the gallery. Newer generations of artists have continued to expand the gallery's offerings. These artists include Andreas Slominski, Gary Simmons, Olaf Breuning, Andy Hope 1930, Andre Butzer, David Malkjovic, Sara VanDerBeek Tris Vonna-Michell, Claire Fontaine, Trevor Paglen, B. Wurtz, Camille Henrot and Nina Beier.

  • Hello, we moved to metro, we took a pass 5 days. Stations are different and all have their charms, you won't have time to see them all but enjoy what you can. Kind regards

  • I already knew that they were on a previous journey. But the beauty of these pieces is to find them without wanting to and be amazed. In fact, in this second journey I found many more than previously the had not seen.

  • I went to the Oliver Laric exhibit at Metro Pictures. I was mindblown by the intricacies of his video. The attention to detail and the magic of the transition. I was mesmerised. I urge everyone to come see his exhibit while it’s still up.
