SeaGlass Carousel at The Battery, New York City

#6 of 76 in Parks in New York City
At the southern tip of Manhattan, beyond the busy streets and skyscrapers, is the green urban oasis of SeaGlass Carousel at The Battery. The park is named after the artillery batteries once placed here as the first line of defenses during the city's early years. Today the park gives locals and visitors a chance to enjoy lush gardens, take a leisurely stroll, and admire the Statue of Liberty. Many monuments, memorials, and historical landmarks are located in the park. Don't miss Castle Clinton, the early 19th-century fort that served as the U.S. Army headquarters during the War of 1812 and later as America's first immigration station. While the park’s location on the Hudson River provides excellent views, on a windy day it can be very chilly, so bring an extra layer. • This carousel has been on my list for about 5 years and we finally made it! The day we went it had snowed the night before and perhaps because of it there was no line, a bonus for us! It's a fun carousel, very unique, I bet it's beautiful at night. Highly recommended for kids and adults with a childlike spirit.
  • Went here about 4 years ago it was pretty nice. Today I stopped by because I was in the area. Has fish instead of Horses, really cool ride. Music plays and it lights up. Will go again.
