Extending from the Oregon coast into the Pacific Ocean, Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area houses the Yaquina Head Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse on the Oregon coast. The lighthouse has been in operation for over 140 years. Admire the views of Newport and the coast, and explore the tide pools and the beach while watching for harbor seals. If you're lucky, you may be able to catch a glimpse of gray whales on their annual migration. The only way to gain access to the historical lighthouse is through a brief free tour. A visit to Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Newport trip planning site to plot your vacation.

It is indeed an outstanding natural area! 7 dollars to enter but for a 3 day pass so you can come back within 3 days without paying again. Well worth the walk down and back up the stairs to check out the tide pools by the ocean. Really peaceful place to come spend some time and incredibly beautiful.

Great place to go at low tide! Park rangers are there to give instructions and answer any questions. Very nice people! The rocks on the way to the little tide pools roll under your feet! Wear sturdy shoes! There are a lot of stairs, so keep that in mind! The view at the base of the lighthouse is amazing, even on a foggy day! The flowers around it are beautiful!
