Cliff Walk is a 5.6 km (3.5 mi) public access walkway that takes you along Newport’s shoreline. The walk is famous for its views, which combine some of the area’s most famous Gilded Age mansions with the striking natural beauty of the rugged coast. Though the majority of the walk is paved, the south end is not, and you will have to scramble on some rocks. It is important to wear walking shoes and tread carefully, as the fine sand that coats the rocks can make them slippery. Bring a bottle of water with you. • Absolutely gorgeous! 3.5 mile walk around the ocean and mansions. It was a perfect day for a walk and to enjoy nature. From the 40 steps, to walking by the Breakers, and Salve Regina University...

  • Easy enough walk for all types of people. Great views of the ocean and the backside of the mansions.

  • Wear closed toe shoes! Amazing unless you're too worried about losing your footing/breaking something because you wore sandals. Absolutely gorgeous views and not terribly strenuous. Though, anyone with mobility restrictions might want to stick to the paved portion. At which point, any footwear will suffice. :)
  • Beautiful walk. I’d definitely recommend if you have never done it before. I went expecting to see all the beautiful houses, which I did, but you can’t see all of them very well. Possibly because some of the houses are occupied and for privacy. Which I totally get! It’s a very popular walk. There are a few that you can walk on to the grounds and see closer up. But a majority of them have high fences and plants in front of those fences which makes it hard to see the houses. The walk in general is beautiful. And id go again just to walk it and see the views of the opposite side of the cliff walk.
