Trip Planner: USA / Rhode Island / Newport / Newport Mansions
Take a walk through American architectural history as you view Newport Mansions. The Preservation Society of Newport cares for the mansions and keeps 11 of the 14 properties open to the public. Book a tour through The Breakers, one of the most luxurious summer haunts of the Vanderbilts, or Marble House, where the former Mrs. William K. Vanderbilt built a Chinese tea house on the cliffs over the sea. The glamour and opulence continue in nine other restored houses, all representing different periods in architecture dating back to the late 18th century. Visit the Green Animals Topiary Garden to bushes that are sculpted seasonally. Consider purchasing a ticket for all 11 houses online before you go. Work out when and for how long to visit Newport Mansions and other Newport attractions using our handy Newport trip app.

These homes were absolutely stunning and is a must see if in Newport Rhode Island. Priced well only $34 to see two of the homes and to be able to take as long as you like touring the homes and the grounds. It’s also a place to see some rooms that they are filming the new show the Gilded Age.
The Inside the Gilded Age tour is the best tour I have ever been on. I take a lot of private tours of historic places and I am a big fan of the HBO series. This is not meant to be a comprehensive tour of the mansions. I did that on my own but this tour does exactly what it says and more Melanie and Ray are outstanding guides. The tour was informative and a whole lot of fun with a lot of insider tidbits. The transportation around the mansions was seamless and comfortable. There was even a wonderful stop for refreshments. Inside the Gilded Age tour with Melanie and Ray was definitely the best experience I had in Newport out of the many wonderful times I had visiting the mansions. Membership to the Preservation Society is included in the price and I felt I got my moneys worth and then some
