The product of one family's passion for art, Chrysler Museum of Art spans thousands of years of history. Home of Walter P. Chrysler Jr. 's art collection, the museum features 30,000 pieces that give a comprehensive view of the development of art forms over the course of human history. In addition to the main, Neoclassical building, the museum also owns two historic homes downtown. Several tours address a variety of interests, including the elements of art, the ancient world, mythology, and the history and science of glass. You also might find a film screening or lecture here as well. Plan my trip to Norfolk with suggested itineraries provided by Inspirock.

I love this art museum so much! It's free to go, though they do have a donation box where you can help out if you are able, so it's a super accessible place for a day out. It's sort of a medium sized museum, where you could see all that they have in a day, if you had a large chunk of time to do it and the desire to spend the time. They have a lot of different kinds of collections, ranging from ancient to modern art and have special exhibits that they'll have for a few months at a time. They also have a very large blown glass collection, as they have a studio and glass blowing classes right next door. They even have a little cafe that looks really nice, though I admit I haven't eaten there, yet. The staff here are also very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Guided tours are also offered here, if that's something you're looking for, though I usually just walk through on my own. I will definitely continue to spend time here and enjoy the beautiful art!

When I moved to Norfolk from New York I had no idea that there would be a museum here that would have world renowned painters, and even a mummy casket. It's a beautiful venue. At the store you see a gorgeous statue of a man on a horse helping someone else. The neighborhood has Victorian homes. Just a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. I've been there many times and I watched their calendar to see the upcoming exhibits.
