Wolf House, Norfork

#84 of 102 in Museums in Arkansas
The Jacob Wolf House is a historic house on Arkansas Highway 5 in Norfork, Arkansas. It is a log structure, built in 1825 by Jacob Wolf, the first documented white settler of the area. Architecturally it's a "saddle bag", which is a two-story dog trot with the second floor built over the open breezeway. A two-story porch extends on one facade, with an outside stair giving access to the upper floor rooms. The building's original chinking has been replaced by modern mortaring. It is maintained by the Baxter County Historical and Genealogical Society as a historic house museum.
The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

  • An amazing piece of early American history that has been preserved, and the preservation is on going. The yearly re enactment of life at that time is a yearly event, and is very interesting and educational. The people there do a very good job of explaining the history of the building, and how it was used. Well worth a visit.
  • I visited the Jacob Wolf House during Pioneer Days and found the site beautifully maintained and the team on property incredibly knowledgeable. It was amazing to see a structure that was 80% original from the 1820s. Glad to see the State of Arkansas preserving this slice of our history.
