Norristown Farm Park was originally part of a 7000acre tract of land called "Williamstadt," which originally belonged to William Penn. The property was then transferred to Isaac Norris, the namesake of Norristown, by way of Penn's son, William Penn, Jr. Norris' heirs sold pieces of Williamstadt to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Norristown State Hospital was opened in the 1870s as a mental hospital. The park is on state-owned land that surrounds the hospital.

Farm park is one of my favorite places on earth. There’s rarely anyone around, and right at dusk June through July you can see a zillion fireflies painting the lush landscape with their light. I remember taking walks here, and noticing deer walking gently beside me through the brush, not five feet away. Wonderful. And a great place to take a first date!
A fantastic park. Trails, fishing, picnics, educational exhibits and much more. There are so many miles of trails to explore. The creek that runs through the park is clear and picturesque. It is stocked with trout for fishing. There are many different parking areas to allow easy access to all parts of the park. Montgomery County has many parks to offer, but the Norristown Farm Park is one of the most unique.
