Diablo Lake is a reservoir in the North Cascade mountains of northern Washington state, United States. Created by Diablo Dam, the lake is located between Ross Lake and Gorge Lake on the Skagit River at an elevation of 1201ft above sea level. Diablo Lake is part of the Skagit River Hydroelectric Project and managed by Seattle City Light. Diablo Lake Trail, designated a National Recreation Trail in 1981, runs for 3.80mi along the lake's northern shore.
The lake holds rainbow, coastal cutthroat, brook, and the federally threatened bull trout. It is a popular recreational spot for kayakers and canoeists. The unique, intense turquoise hue of the lake's water is attributed to the surrounding glaciers that grind rocks into a fine powder that is carried into the lake through creeks. That fine powder stays suspended in the lake, giving the water its brilliant color.

  • Went across the pass for the weekend. Decided to stop at Diablo Lake Overlook on our way home. Loved how green the water looked from the overlook. Lots of people so parking was hard to find.  more »
  • What a natural wonder! Wish we had taken a cruise around the lake but it wasn’t operational when we went in Sept.  more »

  • Amazing view of Diablo lake. There are plenty of places to park, a few bathrooms and picnic tables. The signs explain how Diablo lake came into existence, the reason why the water is such a stunning greenish/blue and the wildlife that surrounds the area. Highly recommend adding this location if you're passing by.
  • The color of the water is very unique. And no, it is not from an overgrowth of algae. Spectacular view. Picnic benches are available. Go a little further and drive over the Diablo dam and then walk it.
