  We had a Very Pleasant visit to the Garnet Mine. Once you pay, a guide drives down to the pit, and you follow in your own vehicle. At the pit, they give a short, but interesting history of the mine...  more »

  Great place for kids. Very easy to pan for the stones, so the young ones are just about guaranteed a good time. The shop is several miles up the road from Rt 28 with limited signage, just keep going and you will find it. Reasonable prices and an extensive gift shop as well. Nice place.

  We had such a great time here, this is a great place for kids, because the mining is easy for them to do. We have been a couple times, and have never found a huge piece of garnet, there are only very small pieces, but it is still a lot of fun! The only part that we didn't like is that you have to stop mining every 55 minutes, to drive back and forth from the mining site to the main entrance, so the tour guides can switch their posts, which is kind of a pain and disrupts the group from having fun and mining.
