#8 of 10 in Things to do in Norwich
The Leffingwell House Historic Museum, built in 1675 by Stephen Backus for his family, and sold to Lt. Thomas Leffingwell in 1700, shows the architectural development from a two room home to a 17th-century pre-Revolutionary tavern ending as a mid-18th-century townhouse. Interpreters evoke the independent spirit and lifestyle of early America with displays of artifacts dating prior to the founding of Norwich in 1659, through the 1776 Revolution and the Civil War. Open Saturdays, 11am-4pm, April-October and appointment; $5.00.

  • Great tours but could be so much more, not kid friendly in any way, shape, or form. Run by an older generation set in there way and unable to adapt to anything outside of their comfort zone which is sad and will one day be the death of this place. However a couple of times each year they have paranormal investigations with Arrowhead paranormal group that are incredible and should not be missed. Such a rich historical location that is literally being choked into irrelevance by the very people that are charged with protecting it.
  • Great little piece of American history. Only open on Saturday and some special occasions but worth a short trip.
