The Flying Horses Carousel is the oldest operating platform carousel in America. Located in the historic resort community of Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts, on Martha's Vineyard, the carousel was apparently first located in New York City before being moved to the island in the 1880s.

The carousel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987. The carousel is one of only a handful of carousels that still have brass rings for a rider to attempt to grab as the carousel rotates.

  • The history alone of this place is worth the visit. One of only 2 of its kind still operating in the US. It’s not just for kids-if your a history buff please check it out. It’s so cool!

  • This was a cute kid area of Martha’s Vineyard. Very nostalgic and the young children seemed to really enjoy this.

  • I did not ride the Carousel, but it was unlike any one I've seen. Riders tried to collect as many meatal rings they ciuld and whoever collected the most, received a free ride! Neat concept and Oldesr Carousel in the US :)
  • Great family experience! Tickets are 4 dollars, however they let my infant ride for free. Everyone seem to be having a great time and they offer old timey concessions for nostalgia. (Only downside- they did not let me keep a ticket stub for his photo album which was a bummer!)
