Landmark · Tourist Spot
Jack London Square is a popular entertainment and business destination on the waterfront of Oakland, California, United States. Named after the author Jack London and owned by the Port of Oakland, it is the home of stores, restaurants, hotels, an Amtrak station, a San Francisco Bay Ferry ferry dock, the historic Heinold's First and Last Chance Saloon, the (re-located) cabin Jack London lived in in the Klondike, and a movie theater. A farmer's market is hosted among the retail shops on Sunday mornings. The former presidential yacht USS Potomac is moored at an adjacent slip.Jack London Square is located at the south end of Broadway, across the Oakland Estuary from Alameda. The name has also come to refer to the formerly industrial neighborhood surrounding Jack London Square now known as the Jack London District, which has undergone significant rehabilitation in the last decade, including loft conversions and new construction. Current California Governor (and former Oakland mayor) Jerry Brown made his home here before moving north to the Uptown neighborhood.

  • This area is fun and offers restaurants, shops, and arcade, and ice cream. Loved the outdoor bocci courts!  more »
  • I wandered through here on my walk on the Bay Trail and I was reminded of the history and how lovely the space is in its simplicity. And there are lots of classic places around for a good meal.  more »
  • This place is looking really nice! A friend was coming into the bay area for a few days and asked for recommendations on where to go/what to do. When I suggested this spot in downtown Oakland they said, "Dude, really?" But with all the new restaurants and with the ballpark moving here in the next few years, this place is going to be amazing! Scott's Seafood is amazing and The Plank is a pretty cool spot. Decent views of SF and the port.
  • Quiet and warm. Went on a sunny day and feeling great! There’s self parking underground and should be able to find plenty of parking. We went a Saturday afternoon and it’s easy to find. They have some sitting areas and it’s just great to sit there and enjoy a lazy afternoon.
