Tilden Nature Area is a 740-acre preserve located just North of Tilden Regional Park. With over 10 miles of hiking trails, the preserve contains a blend of native and introduced plant communities, including oak/bay woodlands, grasslands, eucalyptus forests, and streams. Hikes range from the leisurely, self-guided Jewel Lake Nature Trail to a vigorous climb up Wildcat Peak (elevation 1,211') for panoramic, San Francisco Bay views. A 750-foot boardwalk through the woods leads to Jewel Lake, a historic reservoir and waterworks, and a peaceful place to watch wildlife.

At Tilden Nature Area one can also find the renowned Environmental Education Center (EEC), headquarters for the area's interpretive programs, and the historic Little Farm.

  • This is a great huge green resource, part of the green necklace in the Bay Area. Come and take a long hike here.

  • In the Oakland hills, this park has something for everyone! A train ride and carousel for kids and adults, a Botanic Garden, a golf course, hiking trails. And spectacular views of the SF Bay

  • I've lived in the Bay Area all my life and have never been here. What a hidden gem! If you've got little kids, the mini farm is awesome to check out and feed the animals and if you're looking for beautiful hiking trails , Tilden has that in abundance. Oh....and it's free?! Bit of a winding road and drive to get there but totally worth it AND on the way there's BEAUTIFUL views of the Bay overlooking San Francisco. Total photo ops! Enjoy!
  • Only did a small quick hike here but it was beautiful! Most of the trails are wide and very flat. Good for mountain biking, walking dogs, going for runs. Mostly low in the trees but maybe it goes up to! There was a little path through the trees with wooden path!
