Perkins Cove, Ogunquit

#2 of 315 in Parks in Maine
Geologic Formation · Nature / Park
One of coastal Maine's many charming waterfront areas, Perkins Cove evolved thanks to the efforts of local fishermen who wanted to protect their boats. The cove is a conglomeration of what were once a separate river and inlet; after fishermen constructed a canal, erosion created the body of water in place today. You can explore the seaside and its host of dunes and beaches, as well as the town of Ogunquit, a former artists' colony home to shops, studios, and eateries. Be sure to try some fresh lobster, a regional specialty, from the restaurants around the cove. Discover how to plan a Ogunquit trip in just a few steps with Inspirock's itinerary builder.
