Ski and snowboard in winter or hike and camp in summer at Hurricane Ridge, a pristine site that affords all-encompassing views of the Pacific coastline. Sitting 1,598 m (5,242 ft) high in the mountains of Olympic National Park, in an intense wind zone, the ridge has unpredictable weather where it can snow any time of year. The drive along the ridge overlooks the Olympic mountain range with views of meadows and snow-capped peaks. Watch for wildlife here. Check the visitor center's information desk, which provides maps and tips regarding the park's facilities and regulations. A snack bar and restrooms are also available on-site. Hurricane Ridge Reviews
The drive was lovely and the view at the top amazing. I would have enjoyed a snow show hike. The building was closed on weekdays in April. I wish there had been snow shoe rentals available. more »
Well This is going to be about one of those dumb tourist reviews so hang in there. We were ready for a nice walk around the top only to be surprised of feet of snow still there and a closed visitors c... more »
If you love the snow and spectacular mountain views, Hurricane Ridge is a beautiful adventure. The thrills begin at the base of the range in the town of Port Angeles. Stop at the ranger station to buy a yearly pass and get a taste of what you'll see in the Olympic National Park. From the ranger station, head south...and up...and up, for 17 miles. Did I mention up? That's right. 17 miles up to a height of 5300 feet above sea level. The air is thinner, and the sky is crisp. Spring is a perfect time to see the white caps in all their glory. Summer time is when you can view the Milky Way in all its glory. Stay up there as long as you can. There are a number of trails (summer) and wildlife is abundant. Take you time going back down and don't be afraid to pull over in a parking area to give your cars brakes a rest. Your best bet is to use a lower gear and let the transmission do the work on keeping your pace.
Absolutely stunning, enjoyable walk, and friendly staff to help answer questions. I would recommend this to anyone you get amazing views from the parking lot, you don’t have to hike at all.
